SMART STUDY SKILLS = FAST RESULTS
Do you believe that studying can be hard? The good news is that we can cultivate excellent study habits to make studying more effective, efficient, and enjoyable.
Study skills are a very imperative part of academic success. Badly developed study skills are a major reason of academic underachievement. Studying is a skill and being successful in schools and colleges require a high level of study skills. Students must first learn these skills, practice them and acquire effective study habits in order to be successful
First, it is very important for the students to change their lifestyle and their behavior. To start with this journey every student should work on their everyday schedule and to do this student should emphasize creating the best possible learning environment and attitude. This means making sure that they are getting enough sleep and taking care of themselves-diet & exercise, mental habits, emotional management, learning environment.
Effective use of time plays an important role in study skills. Setting a timetable is one of the most important tools for the students. This helps the students to give priority to each subject and at the same time focus on all the subjects. However, don’t forget to get yourself to timetable not just homework time, but also social activities, mealtimes, and time to watch TV, play on the computer or meeting friends. This ensures that they make time for everything they need to do. Remember -Don’t be too strict on yourself. If you don’t get through as much as you had planned; sometimes studying can take longer than expected. Keep taking well-spaced breaks, and schedule another study session.
Now that you have worked up an attitude for success and are feeling inspired, it’s time to get more organized. You need to organize your space which is an important part of good study skills and for this you would need good studying environment. Study in an area that is set up for serious study. Have your tools for study: notebooks, pens, pencils, study gadgets, dictionary, thesaurus, etc. Be sure the area is well-lit, free from noise and distractions, and not too comfortable. Control for interruptions like phones ringing, doors opening and closing, and people coming and going. We will suggest you to study in the same place every day.
Students should also try to understand and explore their own learning style as it will boost their study motivation and will give them the confidence to handle difficult subjects too. There are four major learning styles; visual (responding well to visual cues); auditory (remembering audio tracks); reading or writing (benefit from reading and making notes); and kinaesthetic (rely on practical training) and students should know their preferred learning style as it will help them to adapt to specific methods of studying. So, try out different studying techniques to figure out the method that helps you learn best!
It’s very easy, and common, to put off your study session because of lack of interest in the subject, because you have other things to get done, or just because the subject is hard. However, remember -your most difficult subject will require the most power and mental energy, you should start with it first. Once you’ve completed the most difficult work, it will be much simpler to complete the rest of your work. Believe it or not, starting with the most difficult subject will improve the efficacy of your study sessions, and your educational performance.
And, still you need any guidance with your study skills or whenever you get stuck on something and feel that something does not make sense, ask for help from your lecturers and teachers. You may want to reach out to your friends and fellow classmates as well. Asking for help will provide you with a wealth of information for exams and also help your bond with teachers.
